In de kop van Noord-Holland, aan de rand van het landelijke dorpje Hoogwoud, vind je één van de gezelligste tuincentra van Nederland: De Boet.

OUD SCHUURTJE
Toen hovenier Jan Beers en zijn vrouw Anneke in 1972 begonnen met het kweken en verkopen van bomen en planten konden ze niet vermoeden dat hun ‘boet’ zou uitgroeien tot het omvangrijke en sfeervolle tuincentrum dat het vandaag is. “In het dorp stond al jaren een oud schuurtje vol met rotzooi”, vertellen Jan en Anneke over de beginjaren. “Je kon het huren mits je de troep opruimde. Met wat vrienden gingen we aan de slag. We monteerden een glazen dak op de schuur, schilderden de binnenkant wit en plaatsten plantentafels, een toonbank, een binderij en wat stellingen voor potterie. Buiten zetten we bomen, heesters, coniferen en vaste planten in de grond. Zo toverden we de schuur in korte tijd om in een voor die tijd compleet tuincentrum.”

BOET RIJMT GOED
En de naam? Ook die was snel gevonden. Anneke: “Boet is het Westfriese woord voor schuur, het oude schuurtje was onze Boet. En ook niet onbelangrijk, De Boet rijmt goed!” Tijdens de officiële opening liep destijds het hele dorp uit om het jonge stel succes te wensen. Het aantal klanten dat De Boet wist te vinden groeide gestaag en al snel werd het schuurtje te klein. Op nog geen steenworp afstand vonden Jan en Anneke een nieuwe locatie. Aan de overkant van de weg verrees in 1978 een splinternieuw tuincentrum. Daarna volgden nog vele uitbreidingen en verbouwingen. De Boet blééf maar uit zijn jasje groeien en tot op de dag van vandaag is dat zo gebleven.

EIGENWIJS
De laatste grote verbouwing vond in 2014 plaats. Hierbij werd de vroegere bouwmarkt - aan de kant van het dorp - vervangen door een prachtig nieuw gebouw met een grote verdieping. Ook de gevel en de entree kregen een facelift, helemaal in de stijl van De Boet en tegelijkertijd eigentijds. “En eigenwijs, want dat hoort nou eenmaal bij De Boet”, vertelt Anneke, die dergelijke metamorfoses heel wat keren meemaakte. Voor zoon JanWillem was het de eerste keer dat hij van begin tot eind bij zo’n ingrijpend project betrokken was. JanWillem is de jongste van de vier kinderen en samen met zijn vriendin Merel zal hij te zijner tijd het stokje overnemen. “We zijn supertrots dat we dit als bedrijf en als gezin, samen met onze medewerkers voor elkaar hebben gekregen”, straalt JanWillem. “De Boet is groter en mooier dan ooit. De Woonboet en de Tuinmeubelshow komen veel beter tot hun recht. Ook veel andere productgroepen hebben nu volop de ruimte. Wij zijn er heel blij mee, en onze klanten al helemaal.”

GEZELLIGE SFEER
